Get More About Bushido
Bushido, the code of conduct of the samurai of premodern Japan. In the mid-19th century the precepts of Bushido were made the basis of ethical training for the whole of society (in relation to the emperor). Instruction in the code was officially abandoned in 1945, though elements of it were retained in martial arts.

Bushidō (武士道, "the way of warriors") is a Japanese collective term for the many codes of honour and ideals that dictated the samurai way of life, loosely analogous to the European concept of chivalry.. The "way" originates from the samurai moral values, most commonly stressing some combination of sincerity, frugality, loyalty, martial arts mastery, and honour until death.

The word "bushido" comes from the Japanese roots "bushi" meaning "warrior," and "do" meaning "path" or "way." It translates literally to "way of the warrior." Bushido was followed by Japan's samurai warriors and their precursors in feudal Japan, as well as much of central  and east Asia.

First formulated in the 17th century, bushido is the code of conduct of the samurai class of Japan. Its precise content varied over time, taking on overtones of Zen Buddhism and Confucianism. Along with self-discipline, honor, and austerity, one constant feature was the samurai’s obligation to his lord, which superseded even familial ties.
